🍽️ Behind Every Statistic Is a Family Struggling to Eat

Last week, we shared that SNAP benefits have been funded in Washington State for November — but that doesn’t mean our hunger crisis is over.

Even with funding restored here at home, food insecurity across Washington remains at emergency levels:

📊 Nearly 1 in 10 Washingtonians rely on SNAP each month just to afford food.
🍎 1 in 4 families with children face food insecurity — meaning parents skip meals so kids can eat.
🥫 Food banks across the state report record-breaking demand, with more than 13 million visits last year.
💵 Rising housing costs, grocery prices, and the loss of pandemic-era support have left working families struggling to get by.

So while Washington’s SNAP funding helps keep meals on tables this month, it doesn’t fix the underlying issue — food insecurity was already a statewide crisis long before the funding gap.

This is not just about one month or one program — it’s about affordability, access, and equity for families across our state.
